Andrea Stephenson founded FarmWatcherUK (FWUK) in February 2014 due to her brother suffering thefts from his farm. His neighbour also had 30 sheep stolen at around the same time and with her chosen career in Digital Communications and Web Development it was a logical step to use social media as a way to warn others and make people further afield aware.
Through this Andrea was able to build up a large online community raising awareness of rural crime both locally and nationally.
FarmWatcherUK now work alongside local police intelligence officers and members of the public to raise awareness of live theft information in all areas of rural crime.
The FarmWatcherUK Facebook page has become a huge success, with the most popular posts having a reach of over 170,000 people to a target audience, and an average post reaching over 20,000 people. Weekly page reach has topped nearly 1 million at times and we now have over 28000 likes on the page. On Twitter we have over 6,000 followers, with regular retweets and a weekly reach of 500,000.
FarmWatcherUK has been featured in various publications such as The Northern Echo, The Northern Farmer, FarmLand Magazine and Andrea has written a rural crime blog for the national Crimestoppers website. Numerous radio interviews have also been broadcast across the UK and Andrea has appeared on BBC Look North.

Whilst we will never stop all rural crime we can at least help prevent it as much as possible.
