About Angela Sawyer

Angela Sawyer has extensive experience of supporting businesses in the food industry to develop and grow. Since
2002 as the Senior Food Technologist at Food Centre Wales, a food innovation centre based in west Wales, she
has led the team of technologists providing technical support to food and drink companies.
Prior to that she spent 18 years developing her technical and managerial experience across a diverse range of
food and drink processes. She has experience working for major international and SMEs, encompassing the fields
of NPD, quality and food safety systems, food legislation, auditing, business development, and training.
The centre works in partnership as part of Food Innovation Wales, offering co-ordinated subsidized support for
food companies to enable innovation and growth. Through a broad range of consultancy and training services,
including commercial processing facilities the centre helps companies to develop the right product to meet
changing market needs.

As farm businesses seek ways of
diversifying income streams to protect future viability, food manufacturing or retailing remain popular options to
explore. Small food companies are important drivers of innovation within the sector, but there are many issues
