About Charles Gulland
Charles Gulland is a graduate of Hooke Park College, established in 1989 by the Parnham Trust to research and develop profitable use of home grown timber. Winner of the Westminster Foundation Award for timber design he was appointed designer in residence with the countryside commission for Scotland in 1990.
In 1992 he formed All Round Buildings, now Wigwam® Cabins Ltd. Working with Heriot Watt University the business was involved in developing timber building designs, utilizing freshly felled forest thinnings and home grown timber.
Following on from his work with the Countryside Commission Charles identified a niche in the market and in 1999 developed the wooden Wigwam®, a four season fully insulated, heated camping cabin made from steam bent timber and clad in larch boards.
In 2000, he launched Wigwam® Holidays Ltd and wigwamholidays.com. Over the following years the business grew from 4 original sites with total of 12 units to the in excess of 80 that exist today, including 15 franchise sites and with well over 600 Wigwams in commercial use.
